Our Story

Behind Be the Best

As a divorced mother living in the ghettos of Fayette, Mississippi, “Mama” Regenia Moore Kent was determined to ensure her four sons’ success. She instilled a simple mantra in them daily: be the best. Her goal was to enable her sons to pursue their dreams unhindered and give back to their communities. Her efforts paid off, as all four of her sons went on to become decorated Army soldiers, with Stephen and Robert attaining the rank of colonel, and Patrick the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Before enlisting, Stephen became the first in his family (though not the last) to attend college, starting at Alcorn State University. After finishing company command, the Army sent Stephen to earn his Master’s of Business Administration degree from Syracuse University.

Stephen Kent.

During his time there, Stephen discovered a passion for investing. Through the ups and downs of financial investing and trading, he realized that principles of financial literacy and freedom were rarely taught to those in his community and others like it. Thus, Be the Best Foundation was born.

Today, the Foundation stands as a tribute to Mama Kent and an extension of her life’s mantra. By teaching BIPOC and marginalized communities how to achieve financial success and freedom, and by providing ongoing financial assistance to marginalized youth pursuing their college dreams, the Foundation is committed to help everyone realize the same vision that Mama Kent has for her sons: to be the best.

In alignment with Mama Kent’s values of uplifting, inspiring, and empowering our neighbors, we focus on financial literacy and alleviating debt burdens, promoting financial freedom and generational wealth.

By emphasizing equity and inclusion, we strive to create equal opportunities for all students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their dreams. Our commitment to education extends beyond scholarships, offering financial literacy programs to equip individuals with the knowledge necessary for lasting financial stability.

Through these efforts, we aim to make enduring positive impacts on students, educators, and communities, fostering a brighter future for everyone involved. Join us on this transformative journey as we empower futures through education and contribute to building stronger, more resilient communities.

Scholarships

We provide scholarships to historically marginalized youth who need financial assistance to attend or complete college. We believe that everyone deserves a chance and support. This support helped us, and we want to pay it forward by helping other youth pursue higher education.

Our dream is to provide scholarships to thousands of historically marginalized students across America, helping them attend and complete college.

Financial Literacy

We also offer a comprehensive teaching and learning program. Through grant funding and donations, we educate individuals on achieving financial freedom.

Our goal is to empower BIPOC and historically marginalized communities across America with the knowledge to avoid financial pitfalls and make wise investments. By providing this education, we aim to help individuals achieve financial independence and stability.
