Regenia Moore Kent

Honorary Board Member

Regenia Moore Kent, raised in Fayette, Mississippi, is one of thirteen children. She married Robert Kent, Sr., her high school sweetheart, and they embarked on a journey to fulfill his calling to be a soldier in the US. Army.

After eleven years into their marriage, she found herself back in Mississippi, divorced with four young sons to raise, Robert Jr, Daryl, Stephen, and Patrick. Although times for her were very difficult, she pressed forward to make the best life possible for her sons, often working two or more jobs to make ends meet.

She overcame the hardships of poverty while keeping a positive attitude, never once speaking ill of her ex-husband to anyone, especially her sons. Regenia consistently encouraged and implored her sons to be the best in everything they did, that a good education was the ticket out of poverty. She demonstrated her belief by attaining her Associates Degree and began working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

GOD answered Regenia’s fervent prayer to see her sons grown, independent, and prosperous. All of her sons joined the Army and remain successful. Robert, Stephen and Patrick are retired from the Army and attained the respective ranks of Colonel, Colonel, and Lieutenant Colonel.

She and Robert Sr. have remarried (to each other) and live together in Arkansas.

Stephen Kent

Founder & Executive Director

Stephen E. Kent founded Be the Best Foundation in March 2024 as a tribute to his beloved Mom, Regenia M. Kent who consistently reminded him to ‘be the best’ in everything he endeavored. This is his way to honor his Mom and pay-it-forward.

Prior to Be the Best Foundation, Stephen served over seven years as a Vice President of Finance in the Twin Cities Area with three higher education institutions, the most recent being Metro State University, Stephen has served on several academic & service boards and currently serves on the College of Saint Scholastica’s Board of Trustees.

Prior to service within higher education, Stephen served as an Army Officer for 25 years culminating at the rank of Colonel. Most notably, he has completed three tours at the US Pentagon and served as the Chief Financial Officer for commands in Kuwait and Korea.

Stephen has earned many awards and medals to include six Meritorious Service Medals, two Military Outstanding Service Medals, Airborne & Air Assault badges. He was also awarded the Minnesota State’s Indigenous Men’s & Men of Color Leadership Award.

Stephen has served his community for decades, predominately through youth services. He has mentored kids in elementary schools, coached youth basketball & baseball, and currently officiates high school and college basketball.

Robert Kent

Chairman of the Board

Colonel (Retired) Robert Kent served 32 years within the US Army and Air Force. His commitment to excellence while serving at the 75th Ranger Regiment, the 81ST Air Training Wing (US Air Force) and the Army Nurse Corps earned him the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Ranger Tab, and many other awards. He has a long history of positive leadership and brings his passion for excellence to Be the Best Foundation.

Molly Biwer

Executive Vice President of Marketing

Molly Biwer is senior vice president and chair, Marketing and Brand Strategy at Mayo Clinic where she leads brand strategy, advertising, the creative studio and strategic partnerships supporting Mayo Clinic’s Bold. Forward. 2030 plan. The division is focused on driving the strategy, activation and governance of the global Mayo Clinic brand, sub-brands, and partnerships and brings the brands to life visually and verbally through the world class design strategy and management.

Biwer started her career at Carlson, a global hospitality and travel company where she spent 27 years leading communications and public relations. More recently, Biwer was chief communications officer at Hallmark (2015 – 2020).

Biwer has served on several boards, most recently serving on the board of directors for the Carlson School of Management (IRM) and TPT – Twin Cities PBS.

Michael Birchard

Board Member

Michael Birchard is the co-owner of Frog Tree Farm, Minnesota’s oldest Black-owned farm, which he runs with his spouse of over thirty years. The farm, part of his spouse’s family heritage, serves as a base for their work, which extends beyond farming to focus on violence prevention strategies in the Northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities and fostering understanding between rural and urban communities through farm retreats.

Birchard has had a distinguished career as an instructor and administrator. He served as the inaugural vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and spent over twenty years at North Hennepin Community College. At North Hennepin, he advised several student affinity groups, helped found numerous organizations, and developed courses centered on social justice, equity, and antiracism. One notable course he created is the Dave Larsen American Indian Immersion Experience, named after his mentor and friend.

Currently, Birchard is an adjunct professor at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, where he teaches a master’s course on Human Relations, Cultural Diversity, and American Indian Culture. During his tenure at Inver Hills Community College and Dakota County Technical College, he initiated an American Indian advisory council and helped create a racial equity policy, among other equity-focused initiatives. Following the murder of George Floyd, he collaborated with Inver Hills’ law enforcement program to integrate antiracism and community service instruction.

Birchard is also an early member of the Minnesota State Indigenous Men and Men of Color Workgroup, which aims to recruit and retain Indigenous men and men of color within the Minnesota State system.

Christopher Reynolds

Board Member

Mr. Chris L. Reynolds is currently serving as the Director of the Management and Compliance Directorate within the United States Army Financial Management Command, effective September 29, 2019. Mr. Reynolds is responsible for world-wide improvement and optimization of Army processes that pertain to financial management policies, systems, and reporting requirements. He is also responsible for enforcing compliance through internal control testing and validation. Prior to this assignment he served as the Division Chief, Business Process Standardization. He has honorably served 28 years in the United States Army where he gained in-depth experience and progressive responsibility in command and staff positions in the Army and the Joint Force. He has served in every non-commissioned officer leadership position from Squad Leader to Nominative Command Sergeant Major and is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 56).

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, Finance, from Trinity College and University and is pursuing his Master of Business Administration from Phoenix University. He is a Certified Defense Financial Manager – Acquisition, DOD Financial
Management Certification Level 3 and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. He’s a member of the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA), American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC), and the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

Mr. Reynolds’ operational deployments include Operations Desert Storm – Saudi Arabia, Operation Iraqi Freedom – Iraq, Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan and Operation New Dawn – Kuwait. He also deployed in support of Joint Task Force – Bravo, Honduras.

John Wallace

Board Member

John Wallace is an accomplished professional serving as a Financial Wellness Manager for Bank of America where he combines his financial expertise with his passion for helping others achieve their financial goals. He provides personalized guidance and empowers individuals to make informed financial decisions that enhances their financial well-being. With Bank of America, John has also served as a Project Manager, and a Market Leader responsible for overseeing 14 Financial Centers in the Miami Area. Furthermore, John was recognized as a Bank of America Global Volunteer of the Year Award winner in 2022.

Prior to his service at Bank of America, John had a distinguished 26-year career with the US Army culminating at the rank of Sergeant Major! John is a proven leader, strategic thinker, adaptive, and delivers outstanding results and customer service. He is known for his strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, and ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

John enjoys volunteering and spending quality time with his family and friends. He also volunteers as a Guardian Ad Litem as a court-appointed Child Victim Advocate as well as a Big Brother in the Big Brother – Big Sister program. He believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance and strives to inspire others to achieve their full potential.

Shawn Holmes

Board Member

Shawn Holmes is an accomplished professional with a passion for technology and leadership.
Currently serving as the Director of Technology at North Hennepin Community College, Shawn
has dedicated his career to enhancing the learning experience of students and supporting the
institution’s technological infrastructure. Shawn brings a wealth of experience in management
and strategic planning to his role.
Before transitioning into higher education, Shawn had a successful career with Best Buy, where
he served as General Manager. During his tenure, he led operations at multiple locations,
including Sioux Falls, SD, West Des Moines, IA, and Coon Rapids, MN. A strong focus on
customer satisfaction, team development, and operational excellence marked his leadership in
these roles.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Shawn is committed to his community. He had
volunteered for many years on the board of directors for youth basketball and baseball,
dedicating his time to improving the experience for young athletes. In addition to his leadership
roles, he has also coached both sports, fostering teamwork and skill development among the
players.
Outside of his professional life, Shawn is a dedicated father of three. He enjoys competitive pool
and has a deep love for golf, reflecting his competitive spirit and commitment to continuous
improvement balancing his passions for both sports and technology.
